Description

Pikey peak trek is one of the off the beatean path trek.  Trek begins after private jeep ride to Phaplu and ends . same Jeep ride back to kathmandu.

Many say that the view of Mount Everest from Pikey Peak is one of the best in Nepal. That's a bold claim, but Sir Edmund Hillary himself claimed it was his favourite, and we're inclined to agree. This trek can be completed in three full days, or more easily six.

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu(1300m/4264ft)

This day is your first day in Nepal. Our team is waiting to welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport. We will pick you up and then transfer you to the hotel. After refreshments, you will have a small meeting for the trip and then get ready to trek to Pikey Peak Base Camp.

Day 2Drive to Dhap, Trek to Japre

You start the day with a long (8-9 hour) drive from Kathmandu to Dhap. From the ridge south of Dhap, you start your trek and as you approach Sigane, you will see mountains that you will recognize very well - the peaks of the Numbur Himal part of the Himalayas. The trail from Sigane leads for the first few hours along a road under construction. The first village you reach is called Japre (2920 m/9580 ft), perched above a deep valley with fine views of Everest and the Numbur Himal. There is quite a small gompa and stupa and this is your overnight stop.

Day 3Trek to Pikey Base Camp

Beyond Japre, the trail climbs to a grassy ridge at Bhulbhula. There is a single hut with no name and a nice view of Mount Everest. Soon after Bhulbhule, the trail splits and you turn right to Pikey Peak. You will pass old yak houses and a long mani stone wall. The trail then contours the slope below Taklung Danda and passes through a beautiful wooded trail. Along the flat road, there are many rhododendrons (which you can see in bloom during spring treks). Once you get out of the forest, it's not far to Pikey Peak Base Camp, about a 2 hour drive. From there it is a short climb to the summit at 4065 m / 13336 ft. Unless it is an unusually clear evening, it is better to climb to the top in the morning for the sunrise.

Day 4Sunrise at Pikey Peak, Trek to Loding

From early in the morning, you will follow a gradual path to the top covered with prayer flags. The views are breathtaking! If the weather is clear, you will be rewarded with panoramic views from Annapurna to Kanchenjunga. From the summit of Pikey Peak, you will follow a ridge that starts flat and then steepens as you enter the forest to Jase Bhanjyang, where breakfast awaits you. After breakfast, you will continue your walk down to Loding, which goes through steep sections in the forest. In Loding you will have several accommodation options that are simple and charming.

Day 5Trek from Loding to Junbesi, Visit Thubtenchoeling Monastery

You start the day by heading down the ridge for breakfast at Jase Bhanjyang. As we leave, there are several options for descending into Junbesi. The most likely is a stunning shortcut that leaves the ridge shortly after Jas and descends steeply through spectacular old-growth forest to Taktor. This route meets the Everest base camp trail coming from Jiří. The teahouses from here are a bit more developed and you will probably meet a few other tourists for the first time. From Taktor, it's a few hours along a beautiful trail to Junbesi. Junbesi is a traditional Sherpa village located at an altitude of 2675m/8776ft and is the cradle of Sherpa culture and architecture. The Sherpas consider Solukhumbu a sacred valley. Buddhism flourishes in this remote part of Nepal, which borders Tibet, and there are numerous Buddhist monasteries along the way.

Day 6Trek from Junbesi to Taksindu

This morning, set off on the road to Taksindu. Cross the river at the bottom of the town and climb through the forest to Salung for views of Mount Everest (8848m/29,028ft), Chamlang (7319m/24012ft) and Makalu (8481m/27,824ft) if weather permitting. There are also wonderful views across the valley to Chiwong Monastery and down towards Phaplu. Continue along the trail, level the contours and then drop down to the creek before a short climb to Ringmo, famous for its apple orchards and interesting apple products such as apple rakshi (alcohol), cider and apple pie. From there it's a final short climb to Taksindu La, where again there are great mountain views, and then a short descent to Taksindu Monastery and your lodge. Taksindu Monastery was built in 1946 and is usually open in the early morning or late afternoon. Don't forget to leave a donation if you visit.

Day 7Trek from Taksindu to Phaplu, Visit Chiwong Gompa

Today again leave the main trekking route and take the beautiful path down to Phaplu through the forest. There is also the option of hiking up to Chiwong Gompa, perched high on a cliff overlooking the valley. This monastery was founded in 1923 and hosts a grand celebration of the Mani Rimdu festival in autumn. Continue down to Phapl and celebrate the completion of a great trek in your cozy tea house.

Day 8Drive from Phaplu to Kathmandu

Today we say goodbye to the mountains and get into the car and drive back to the Kathmandu Valley. We will take you to any hotel in Kathmandu and you can relax in the evening after a long drive.

Day 9Transfer to the airport

This is your Last day in Nepal. One of our team members gives you a final departure to the international airport.
