Jiri to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar is an extremely recommended trekking route of the Everest region. In 1953 two renown figures, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa had taken the same route for the Mt. Everest expedition.
After an eight hour beautiful drive from Kathmandu to Jiri, our trek will start the following morning, by passing through the lower parts of the Everest region that are relatively untrained compared to the northern side of the district around Namche Bazaar. This will enable trekkers to experience many inherited aspects of culture and local people. The tracks pass through various villages of various ethnic groups including Tamang, Jirel, Rai, Brahmin, Chettri and of course the Sherpa. Walking along this trek will involve many ups and downs with the path being well serviced with tea houses and good campsites in most of the villages.

Pashupatinath Temple is the sacred temple located on the bank of the holy Bagmati river. Although one cannot enter the main temple unless they are Hindus, you can see the temple and observe the activities performed from the eastern Bagmati river. Boudhanath Stupa is the biggest and holiest stupa built in the 5th century. From this point, we can see gratifying views of the Himalayas including Mt. Everest. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 13Trek to Phorste Thanga (3,680 m) - 5 hours
The trail ascends steeply out of the valley through the rhododendron forest. Juniper and large conifer will start to appear as the elevation increases making the trekking very natural in spring. The trail passes through Yak Kharkas and summer hamlets. The views of Khumbu La and Taboche are magnificent throughout the day. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 17Trek to Thangna (4,500 m) - 4 hours
After a heavy satisfying breakfast, we will trek to the foot of Cho La pass. Accommodation in Thangna will be very basic and in a dormitory-based room because of its remoteness. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 18Cross Cho La pass (5,300 m) and Trek to Dzongla (4,710 m) - 7 hours
We will start walking before dawn at 4:00 or 5:00 am in order to reach the pass by 9:00 am – 10:00 am and avoid bad weather conditions of the noontime. We will cross over at an altitude of 5,300 m where we could be imperiled to strong winds if we cross too late. We will start to climb the steep trail that is frequently used and easy to follow. Though, the difficulty may arise due to the altitude and snow. It often causes inconvenient problems to cross the pass if it is covered by snow. As you reach the top, you are rewarded by the brilliant views, then we will descend to the Dzongla at noon. Accommodation in Dzongla will be very basic and in a dormitory-style room because of its remoteness. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

This is will be a long and challenging day walking along the Khumbu Glacier and up to Everest Base Camp at 5,365 m, the closest you will get to Mt. Everest without mountaineering equipment. During spring, there will likely be expedition teams about to strive for the summit. The appearance of the Khumbu Icefall from Base Camp is sensational. We will return back to Gorak Shep for the night. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 21Hike Up to Kala Patthar (5,555 m) & Descend to Pheriche (4,200 m) - 7 hours
This will be one of the most stressful yet satisfying days of the trek. Most of the morning will be spent climbing Mt. Kala Patthar, a small peak at an altitude of 5,555 m. The ascension is demanding but the climber will get a magnanimous mountain panorama: Everest, the highest point on the planet at 8,848 m, pillars directly ahead and on all sides approach the giants such as Nuptse, Pumori, Chagatse, Lhotse and innumerable others. We will make an instantaneous descent to Gorak Shep and have a warm satisfying breakfast, and then trek down to Pheriche. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
