Gokyo and Renjo la Pass trek are one of the best trekking destinations as it gives us an opportunity to experience various landscapes changing into meadows, ridges, fine clefts, and steep climbing trails. Not only that, we can witness the sky-high mountain peaks, snow-capped mountains and hills, the ice caps, and the best view from the viewpoint of Gokyo Ri. The view of the highest mountain in the world, Mt. Everest and the sister peaks like Cho Oyu, Lhotse and Makalu from Gokyo-Ri is world-class and paradisiacal. The displays of Gokyo valley has a collection of stoned houses and pastures on the shore of a great lake, Dudh Pokhari and the massive Ngozumpa glacier.
This 15-day Gokyo and Renjo la pass trek will begin at Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The second morning at Kathmandu we will take you to Lukla, the gateway to Everest through a scenic flight from the domestic airport. This is where the real adventure of your trip will begin. The magnificent mountains, the gushing sound of the rivers, the rhododendron forests, etc. will help us get through this tiring yet worth the effort trek through the Gokyo valley and one of the high passes Renjo-La Pass. The gorgeous sceneries from the whole trek will knock everyone off the knees. However, Gokyo and Renjo la pass trek are equally challenging and the mixture of both the difficulties and the beauty hence make the whole trip worth it.
Day 1Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport
Firstly, on arriving in Kathmandu, our representative will pick you up from the airport. He/She will be holding up the signboard outside the airport terminal. You will then be escorted to your hotel. You can visit our office to get more information about the trek. In case you happen to arrive after 4 pm, you will be briefed about the trip by our authorized guide. You will be provided with our trek duffel bag, t-shirt, and a cap. Please make sure to carry along your passport, 3 copies of passport-sized photos and a readable copy of your travel insurance policy. Also, make sure to clear any due balance and then sign on the legally binding trip form as well as the non-liability disclaimer form. You can stroll around the city in the evening. Stay overnight at the Hotel. No meals are included.
Day 2Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding
An early morning start with a warm breakfast takes us to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu for the 35-minute scenic flight to Tenzing and Hillary Airport at Lukla (2,804 m). On arriving at the airport, the guide will brief you and introduce our porters before we begin our trek towards Phakding (2,610 m). After landing we will have time to explore the village while our Sherpa crew sort and load our trekking equipment. Then we will begin our trek by gravitating towards the Dudh Kosi River where we will join the main trail to Namche Bazaar, located just over Chaunrikharka (2,713 m). The trail is easy. After passing by the small village of Ghat (2,550 m), it is a brief walk to Phakding. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 3Trek to Namche Bazaar
We will recommence trekking along the banks of the Dudh Kosi, and cross this majestic river many times on thrilling suspension bridges weighted with prayer flags. After accessing the Sagarmatha National Park, the trail escalates steeply with awe-inspiring views. Namche Bazaar, also known as the Gateway to Everest, is a dwelling to numerous quality restaurants, hotels, lodges, shops, money exchanges, Internet cafes, and bakeries. Namche is the most populous village along the entire Everest trail. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 4Acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar
We will spend a day in Namche Bazaar to adjust to the thinning air and get acclimatized to the weather conditions. We will hike a short distance to a museum that is glorified for its displays of the folkloric customs of the Sherpa people. We will also hike up the Syangboche Airport near the Everest View Hotel. From this point, we can see gratifying views of the Himalayas with breathtaking sunrise and sunset over the prospect of Khumbu peaks. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 5Trek to Dole
After a warm breakfast, we will start hiking on the trails to the Everest Base Camp until we reach a place called Sanasa. From Sanasa the trails will ascend towards Mongla. The excellent views of the mountains will keep accompanying us during the trail. Passing through the lovely rhododendron forests, we will descend towards Phortse Tenga and steeply climb to reach Dole. The walk will be of around 6 hours from Namche Bazaar. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 6Trek to Machherma
After the warm breakfast, we will climb a ridge for an extraordinary view both down the valley to Kengtega and up towards Cho Oyu and descend to a river and again ascends steeply to the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa glacier. We will reach Machherma by early noon. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 7Trek to Gokyo
The trek today will take us to one of our main destinations, Gokyo (4,790 m). We will follow the path to Pangka and slightly descend to follow one of the rivers which flow down to the west side of the Ngozumpa glacier. The trail will lead us to staircases atop of the stairs arriving at the first lake called Longponga at an elevation of 4650 m. We will follow the valley and past the valley is the second lake at an elevation of 4,710 m also known as Taujun Lake. After walking for several more minutes, we will witness the beautiful Gokyo valley. Gokyo is a combination of stone houses and walled meadows on the shores of a large lake known as Dudh Pokhari. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 8Trek to Gokyo Ri and Back to Gokyo
Early in the morning, we will have to take a steep climb up to the top of Gokyo Ri at an elevation of 5,483 m. There are abundant rewards for those who attempt this trip – you will get astounding views of the amazing Gokyo valley, the massive Ngozumpa Glacier and an incredible panoramic view of the whole Khumbu Himalayas, including the giants; Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho-Oyu and Gychung Kang. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 9Trek to Lunden via crossing Renjo La Pass
We will head out early morning on a 3-hour trek which will take us to an absolutely amazing high pass of Everest Region; Renjo-La Pass. The glimpses of Cholatse, Mount Everest, and Taboche will be more than exciting. Continuing with the trek we will walk down the trail heading to our destination for the day, Lunden. While on the trail we can observe the amazing snow peaks. It will take us around 7 hours. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 10Trek to Thame
After a warm breakfast, we will head back on the same trail which frequently descends down to the village of Thame. While on the trail we will get to see marvelous snow peaks. About 150 meters above Thame, we will reach Thame Monastery, a striking monastery set between the many homes of monks and laypeople. It dwells on the side of a hill overlooking the valley. This is the site for the spring carnival of the Mani Rimdu festival, held around the middle of May each year.
Day 11Trek to Namche Bazaar
Early morning breakfast and then we will leave the mountains behind us. Our path will take us through Pangboche and Tengboche before advancing to the town of Namche Bazaar. The walk will quiet with great views of the mountains as it weaves in and out of the forest on the side of the gorge. This day, we will continue our journey walking down the hill from Thame. The trek will be comfortable, brief and the last destination for the day and the trip will be at Namche Bazar. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 12Trek to Lukla
This will be our last day of trekking since we will be returning to Lukla where our trek began. We will enjoy this time to reflect on the trek as a group and the individual achievement of all those who were a part of this journey. The afternoon will be free, so you can roam about, relax and enjoy a hot shower! In the evening, we will have a few celebratory drinks and dance with your trek mates. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 13Morning Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu
Enjoying the last glimpse of the mountains we have recently visited, the 35 minutes scenic flight will take us back to Kathmandu. On arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred back to your starting hotel. Stay overnight at a hotel. Breakfast is included. If you are interested to extend the trip, there are several other options such as Chitwan jungle safari, river rafting adventure, Kathmandu shopping tour, mountain biking, and other activities.
Day 14Leisure Day and Farewell Dinner in Kathmandu
After an exhausting trek, this will be a relaxing day for you. It is more like an extra day to use for a flight back to Kathmandu in case there wasn’t a flight the day before due to unpredictable weather conditions. And, in the evening we will host farewell dinner in a traditional Nepalese restaurant with cultural performances to make this day a memorable one for you. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast and dinner are included.
Day 15Transfer to the Airport
We will provide you with the morning breakfast. Lastly, our representative will escort you to the International airport a few hours before the scheduled flight. Breakfast is included.
