Trip Information:

Everest High Passes and Island Peak adventure will start after we explore the temples, shrines, bazaars, and restaurants around Kathmandu, then we will take an exhilarating mountain flight to Lukla and start out trek to the Dudh Kosi Valley, enclosed by the soaring peaks of Thamserku and Kusum Kanguru. It’s a perpendicular ascent to Namche Bazaar, capital of the Khumbu Sherpas, where we will be again welcomed by spectacular mountain vistas. A rest day here assists acclimatization and there are great unrestricted walks to enjoy the area. We will then trek into Gokyo Valley and ascend gradually, walk beside the moraines of Ngozumpa Glacier and turquoise lakes to reach Gokyo. From here we will climb Gokyo Ri to view all of the region’s 8,000 m peaks including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu – a breathtaking panorama. Our trek will then head via Cho La Pass (5,300 m) to Lobuche, where we will follow Khumbu Glacier to Gorak Shep. From here we will ascend towards the Kala Patthar (5,555 m) where we will encounter breathtaking scenery of Everest and her surrounding peaks. We will also visit the historical site of Everest Base Camp. Now after we are well acclimatized, we will cross Kongma La (5,535 m) to Chukhung, to make our struggle on Island Peak. This expedition is well within the reach of anyone seeking their first Himalayan summit, as it is quite harder than Mera Peak. After summiting Island Peak, we will return at our comfortable pace back to Namche and Lukla for our return flight to Kathmandu.

Namche is the most populous village along the entire Everest trail. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

From this point, we can see gratifying views of the Himalayas including Mt. Everest. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Though, the difficulty may arise due to the altitude and snow. It often causes inconvenient problems to cross the pass if it is covered by snow. As you reach the top, you are rewarded by the brilliant views, then we will descend to the Dzongla at noon. We will have very basic and in a dormitory-style room for our night stay because of its remoteness. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Day 13: Trek from Lobuche to Gorak Shep (5,180 m), Hike Up to Kala Patthar (5,555 m) and Return to Gorak Shep - 7 hours

This will be one of the most stressful yet satisfying days of the trek. Most of the morning will be spent climbing Mt. Kala Patthar, a small peak at an altitude of 5,555 m. The ascension is demanding but the climber will get a magnanimous mountain panorama: Everest, the highest point on the planet at 8,848 m, pillars directly ahead and on all sides approach the giants such as Nuptse, Pumori, Chagatse, Lhotse and innumerable others. If possible, we will stay and watch the remarkable sunset on Everest and its neighbors. We will make a quick descent to Gorakshep, a tiny settlement at 5,180 m. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Day 14Trek from GorakShep to Everest Base Camp (5,365 m) and Return to Lobuche (4,910 m) - 8 hours

This will be a long and challenging day walking along the Khumbu Glacier and up to Everest Base Camp at 5,365 m, the closest you will get to Mt. Everest without mountaineering equipment. During spring, there will likely be expedition teams about to venture for the summit. The view of the Khumbu Icefall from Base Camp is magnificent. After experiencing the enourmous beauty we move back to Lobuche for the night stay. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Day 15Trek from Lobuche to cross Kongma La Pass (5,535 m) and Trek to Chukhung (4,710 m ) - 8 hours

From Lobuche, we will ascend past a group of small glacial lakes with distinct views of Makalu to the south-east. As we approach the pass, we will cross the glacial moraines before a final rocky scramble which leads to a narrow ridge adorned with prayer flags. The top of the pass is usually very breezy. After a brief rest, we will head down towards the Chukhung Valley. It will be a tiring walk today, but the fantastic scenery will make it all very rewarding. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Day 16Trek from Chukhung to Island Peak Base Camp (5,240 m) - 4 hours

From Chukhung we will take a leisure walk following the Imja Valley with glorious views of Ama Dablam ruling the skyline and follow the moraines that run from Lhotse (8,501 m) towards the sand flats at Pareshaya Gyab. It is only a small distance from here to the Base Camp, which we will reach by mid-afternoon. We will be staying in a tented camp for a night and you will be having camp food cooked by our professional camping team. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Day 17Acclimatization Day

We will spend the day at the base camp to acclimatize and adjust to the weakening of the atmospheric pressure. Our climbing sherpa/guide will provide you pre-ice climbing training to make you skilled in using climbing gear such as ropes, ice pick, harness, crampons, etc. We will also have a little trek around the base camp to prepare us for the 6,000 m adventure the next morning. Stay overnight at a tented camp. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Day 18 and 19From Dzongla - Climb Island Peak (6,187 m) and Return to Chukhung (4,710 m)

We have allotted two days to climb the Island Peak, although we will probably not need more than one if weather conditions are fine. The strategy for the climb will be decided by our climbing Sherpa leader at the time, taking into consideration the group’s acclimatization, weather, snow conditions, and additional factors. In the morning we will leave very early for the final climb to the summit. Depending on snow and weather conditions, our trek might go for six hours long. We will fix a rope on the summit headwall for safety on both rise and fall. The snow slopes have been crevassed, the headwall is reasonably steep and a head for heights is useful. To reach the summit, willpower and stamina are needed, but the impossible feeling of victory atop this 6,187 m giant will remain a lifetime memory. The view from the summit is wholly incredible! The dominant giants rising above a sea of smaller peaks: Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Makalu and Baruntse are the additional beauty to the incredible view. We should be able to descend back to Chukhung from our summit attempt giving good condition. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Day 20Trek from Chukhung to Tengboche (3,860 m) - 6 hours

We start to take our footsteps back to Tengboche different towns of Dingboche, Orsho, Shomare, and Lower Pangboche to reach the suspension bridge over the Imja Khola River to ascend steadily through Debuche and then to Tengboche, leaving the mountains behind us. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Day 21From Tengboche to Namche Bazaar (3,441 m) via Khumjung (2,780 m) - 5 hours

From Tengboche, we will descend steeply through beautiful forests of juniper, rhododendron, and then to Phunki Tenga. After a welcome break and a cup of tea, we will cross the Dudh Kosi River and climb to Trashinga. We continue our trek to the valley through to Shanasa, where we have the option of visiting Kunde and Khumjung villages before returning to Namche Bazaar which will be our stop for the night. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Day 22Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,804 m) - 6 hours

This will be our last day of trekking since we will be returning to Lukla where our trek began. We will enjoy this time to reflect on the trek as a group and the individual achievement of all those who were a part of this journey. The afternoon will be free, so you can roam about, relax and enjoy a hot shower! In the evening, we will have a few celebratory drinks and dance with your trek mates. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Day 23Morning Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu

Enjoying the last glimpse of the mountains we have recently visited, the 35 minutes scenic flight will take us back to Kathmandu. On arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred back to your starting hotel. Stay overnight at a hotel. Breakfast is included. There are several other options such as Chitwan jungle safari, river rafting adventure, Kathmandu shopping tour, mountain biking, and other activities if you can manage to stay few more days.
